Our Ethos:
At Wisbech St Mary Church of England Academy, we believe in the importance of personal responsibility and the need to show care and respect for others, our school, and its surroundings. Inspired by Luke 6:31, we strive to treat others as we wish to be treated, embodying the principles of good citizenship.
Our staff are committed to collaborating closely with parents, pupils, and Governors to cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and inclusion. We celebrate diversity and ensure that every child feels valued and supported.
We aim to provide a high-quality education that empowers all children to excel and prepares them for future challenges and opportunities. Our inclusive, thoughtful, and sensitive approach ensures that we support every pupil in their journey.
We also recognize the importance of community engagement and partnerships, working together to create a positive and enriching environment for all.
Our Vision: "Be the light." (Matthew 5:14-16)
We choose
Be the Light
as our vision because we want to demonstrate the love of Jesus in our world through our Christian values. Jesus told us in Matthew (5:14-16), “You are the light of the world…let your light shine before all, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Jesus is the true light that shines from within us (John 8:12). We want all members of our school community to thrive and Be the Light in our world, so they make a positive difference today and in the future.
Our Values: Compassion, Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance, Excellence, and Courage
At Wisbech St Mary Church of England Academy, we believe that our school is a caring Christian community firmly founded on the values of
compassion, respect, responsibility, perseverance, excellence, and courage. We reflect these values in the day-to-day running of the school, in all aspects of the curriculum, and in every area of our school life.
As a school community, we demonstrate these values in all we do:
- COMPASSION:
"Be kind and compassionate to one another and forgive each other." (Colossians 3:12)
Showing kindness and understanding towards others, being empathetic, and supporting those in need. It means understanding and supporting one another, both within the school and beyond. For example, children might participate in a buddy system to help new classmates feel welcome or organize a charity drive to support local food banks and shelters.
- RESPECT:
"Love each other like brothers and sisters." (1 Thessalonians 4:9) Valuing ourselves and others, appreciating our differences, and treating property and the world around us with care. This includes using polite words and considering different perspectives. This can be seen in how children listen attentively during lessons, respect school property, and engage in community clean-up projects.
- RESPONSIBILITY:
"So each of us will have to answer to God for what we have done." (Romans 14:12)
Striving for the best in all aspects of learning and behaviour, giving our best effort, learning from mistakes, and achieving our potential. It is about taking ownership of our actions, being accountable, and contributing positively to our community. In school, this might involve children taking turns as class monitors, helping to maintain a tidy classroom, or participating in student council to voice their peers’ concerns.
- PERSEVERANCE:
"Despite barriers we might come across, keep working hard." (James 5:11) Staying determined, overcoming challenges, and striving to achieve our goals. It’s about not giving up, even when things get tough. Examples include children working hard to improve their reading skills, practicing for a school sports event, or supporting each other through difficult tasks.
- EXCELLENCE:
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart." (Colossians 3:23) Always doing our best, aiming for high standards, and celebrating our achievements. This could involve children striving for academic excellence, participating in school competitions, or showcasing their talents in school performances.
- COURAGE:
“Be strong and brave. Don't be afraid of them. Don't be frightened. The Lord your God will go with you. He will not leave you or forget you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6) Facing our fears, standing up for what is right, and trying new things. It’s about being brave and resilient. Children might demonstrate courage by speaking up against bullying, trying new activities outside their comfort zone, or participating in public speaking events.
