2025-2026 SPRING TERM
Welcome back to Spring 2, Octavia Class!
We hope you all had a lovely half term break. The children have returned ready to learn and we are excited for another busy and engaging half term in Year 3.
English:
This half term, we are writing a defeating the monster story inspired by The Truth and the Stolen Hammer, with a focus on punctuating direct speech accurately. We will also be writing discussion texts linked to our History topic, debating whether the Vikings should have invaded England. In Guided Reading, we continue exploring The Firework-Maker’s Daughter to deepen comprehension skills.
Maths
We will be learning about length and perimeter, fractions, mass and capacity, and multiplication and division. The children will continue building fluency in their times tables and developing their reasoning skills.
Science
Our topic is
Light,
where children will investigate how light travels, how shadows are formed and how reflective surfaces work through practical enquiries.
History & Geography
In History, we begin learning about the
Vikings, exploring who they were and their impact on Britain. In Geography, we will study the
South West of England, developing our map skills and understanding of physical and human features.
Creative Curriculum
In Art, we will explore Anglo-Saxon art and patterns. In DT, children will design and create their own pop-up books. In Music, we will study Britten’s Storm and compose our own atmospheric pieces. In RE, we will learn about the events of Good Friday, and in PSHE we will focus on resolving conflict and building positive relationships.
We are looking forward to a fantastic half term full of learning and discovery. Thank you for your continued support.
