Godfrey Class
Year 1
Welcome to Godfrey Class Page!
Our ethos in Year 1 is to promote a love of independent learning.
The indoor and outdoor environments are carefully planned and richly resourced to allow for curriculum coverage to be achieved through a provision based approach and purposeful experiences. We aim to build upon the 'Characteristics of Effective Learning' which underpin the EYFS and provide our children with opportunities to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Supporting adults have a deep understanding of how to ensure children's experiences are developmentally appropriate and ensure learning is advanced by the use of careful interactions and open ended questioning.
Please see the curriculum overview attached for more details of what we will learning throughout this term.
Our homework grid for this term is also attached. We encourage you to work through the activities at your own pace and please share your learning with us on Class Dojo- we would love to see it!

2025-2026 Summer Term
☀️ Summer Term – Learning Overview
This term is full of exciting opportunities for Godfrey class to explore, create and develop their skills across the curriculum.
In Maths, children will continue to build confidence with numbers by exploring part–part–whole relationships, the composition of numbers to 20, addition and subtraction, and 2D and 3D shapes. They will also begin applying their learning to real-life contexts through time, money, and position and direction in Summer 2.
In English, we will be bringing stories to life through our Talk for Writing units. Children will create a fantasy tale inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk and a journey story based on The Enormous Turnip. Alongside this, they will develop their non-fiction writing by producing an explanation text about how to care for an animal and a non-chronological report on an animal of their choice.
In Science, children will explore the world of animals and plants. They will learn about different types of animals, how they grow and survive, and how to care for them. They will also investigate what plants need to grow, the different parts of a plant, and how plants produce food in Summer 2.
In History, children will learn about Parliament and Prime Ministers, discovering important figures from the past and how leadership and decision-making have developed over time.
In Geography, children will journey across the globe to explore the seven continents, developing their understanding of the wider world and its diverse environments.
In RE, children will learn about Pentecost and why it is important to Christians, as well as exploring Judaism, including the role of prayer and blessings in Jewish family life.
In PSHE, children will focus on managing change, reflecting on how they have grown and learning strategies to help them cope with new experiences. They will also explore relationships, their bodies, personal hygiene, and ways to stay safe and healthy.
In Art, children will explore a range of paintings and sculptures, learning about different artists and developing their own skills in drawing, painting and modelling.
In Design & Technology, children will design and create a moving vehicle, learning how wheels and axles work and how to improve their designs.
In PE, children will develop their throwing, catching and agility skills through games, as well as enjoying outdoor learning through Forest School activities such as shelter building and exploration.
In Computing, children will build their confidence using technology through projects like Rocket to the Moon, and will begin developing early programming skills using
Bee-Bots.
