Hill Class
Nursery
Welcome to Hill Class Page!
In Hill Class, we respect that each child is an individual and will experience positive learning that reflects their personal journey. Early years provides a play-based learning environment which enables a child to learn and grow through experiences both inside the classroom and in the outdoor areas. Children can explore and develop their own ideas, both independently and working with friends and adults through discussion. This enables a child to enhance their own problem solving and gain in confidence in daily challenges which leads to extending their own knowledge and embed a solid foundation for their next steps in education. Children are able to access a range of experiences and activities throughout the day, some of which will be adult led and some will be child initiated, where they will be learning through play. As the foundation step in education, Hill Class promote a positive growth mind set and encourages the children to reflect on their emotions, exploring why we feel the way we do and encourages children to talk and understand the actions of those around them.
Children have the opportunity to take risks, and to be challenged across the prime and specific areas of learning and development. This is done through engagement, motivation, opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving, building upon and developing the characteristics of effective learning.
Throughout Hill Class, the children are encouraged to take ownership of the learning environment, to care and respect each other and develop healthy relationship where every child feels valued as an individual.

Welcome to the final term of the year!
First Half Term: Animals and Their Babies
We will start by expanding our knowledge from last term, focusing on animals and their babies. The children will explore how animals grow and change, learning about the different processes they go through. We'll also look at animal habits and how they adapt to changing climates and environments.
Maths
In maths, we'll continue to build our understanding by recognizing numbers from 1 to 10 through songs, investigations, and storytelling.
Second Half Term: Heroes and Adventurers
After the May half term, our learning will shift to Heroes and Adventurers. We'll discover some amazing adventurers and their great achievements. We'll revisit our learning about the past, present, and future, and create opportunities for the children to imagine and embark on their own adventures.
Literacy
In literacy, we'll dive back into the world of rhymes and traditional poetry, which helps support phonics awareness and rhyming words.
Maths
We'll explore concepts like volume, weight, and the idea of more, fewer, and the same, which the children have been practicing during our morning sessions.
Phonics
Phonics time will involve revisiting familiar concepts, recognizing and identifying initial sounds, and practicing writing and mark-making skills.
Learning Environment
Our learning environment will support the children in recognizing numbers and understanding that numbers can be represented in various ways. We'll continue to develop our phonics skills and work on independent personal skills, especially for those getting ready for their next step in education and becoming 'school ready.' This includes fine motor skills like holding writing tools correctly, using scissors, and constructing with blocks or toys. The children will also be encouraged to be independent in dressing and hygiene tasks like brushing teeth or hair and using the toilet.
Let's make this term a fun and exciting journey of learning and discovery! 🚀
