2024-2025 SPRING

Welcome to Year 2 - Spring Term!

Dear Parents and Visitors,

This Spring Term, Year 2 students will embark on an exciting and engaging learning journey. In mathematics, they’ll deepen their understanding of place value, practice using a variety of calculation methods to add and subtract two-digit numbers, explore the properties of 3D shapes, and tackle two-step problems. English lessons will bring Michael Morpurgo’s Wombat Goes Walkabout to life, with children exploring actions, writing features like expanded noun phrases, and developing their skills in third-person narration and dialogue. Art will inspire creativity as the children create vibrant portraits and self-portraits, inspired by Picasso, and in Design and Technology, they’ll design and sew their own purses while learning about materials and sewing techniques.

In science, the children will dive into the fascinating world of electricity, understanding its role in powering homes and learning about safety with electrical items. Guided reading will introduce them to the captivating tales of Greek mythology, sparking thoughtful discussions on courage, curiosity, and consequences. PE will focus on gymnastics, where they will practice tuck positions and develop movement sequences using various apparatus.

With hands-on learning and exploration at every turn, this term promises to be one of growth, creativity, and discovery for our Year 2 children!

Best regards,

The Wisbech St. Mary Year 2 Team
