2024-2025 AUTUMN

Welcome to Year 2 - Autumn Term!

Dear Parents and Visitors,

We're excited to welcome you to a fun and engaging term in Year 2! This autumn, we've introduced continuous provision to extend learning through exciting challenges. Children will choose to participate in challenges that will require them to investigate, research, and solve problems, sparking their curiosity and enhancing their learning experiences. Continuous provision is something the children will be familiar with from Year 1 and EYFS.

We're also thrilled to invite parents to our Parents in Class session and Family Cafés later in the term, where you can see the children's progress firsthand.

Mathematics:

In mathematics, we'll begin by partitioning two-digit numbers into tens and ones, finding ten more and ten less, and working on number bonds to 100. The children will explore strategies for addition and subtraction, with plenty of practical activities using objects to deepen understanding. Daily Maths Fluency sessions will continue to build on their core skills.

English:

In English, we'll be exploring warning tales through Talk4Writing, starting with Kasim and the Greedy Dragon. The children will learn its features before writing their own stories, focusing on expanded noun phrases, coordinating conjunctions, and the past tense.

Creative Learning:

This term is packed with creative opportunities. In Art, we'll study artwork by Kadinsky and explore tints and shades. In Design and Technology (DT), the children will design and evaluate their own pizzas and later learn how gingerbread was first made in Tudor times - just in time for Christmas!

Geography and Science:

In Geography the children will participate in fieldwork, creating maps and learning about physical and human features, while in science they will explore the human body and the role of different organs.

We're looking forward to a term full of discovery, creativity, and learning!

Kindest regards,

The Wisbech St. Mary Year 2 Team
