2025-2026 Spring Term

An Exciting Spring Term of Learning in Awdry

This Spring term promises to be an inspiring and action-packed journey across the curriculum, giving children the opportunity to explore big ideas, develop key skills, and deepen their understanding of the world around them.

In English, children will immerse themselves in powerful storytelling, crafting gripping suspense and warning narratives, as well as developing clarity and precision through instruction writing and persuasive texts. These units will build creativity, confidence, and a strong author’s voice.

Mathematics learning will be both challenging and purposeful, with pupils strengthening their skills in place value, algebra, calculation, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, and statistics, ensuring they can apply maths confidently to real-life problems.

Our history curriculum will take pupils on a thought-provoking exploration of the 20th century, from the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany to World War II and the Holocaust. Pupils will examine key events such as the Battle of Britain, Bletchley Park, and life on the Home Front, developing historical understanding, empathy, and critical thinking.

In geography, pupils will broaden their global awareness by studying North and South America, comparing regions, exploring rivers, cities, mountains, rainforests, and learning about past civilisations and modern industries.

Science lessons will be hands-on and investigative, from building electrical circuits and toys to exploring light, shadows, and colour, including designing and making a working periscope.

Creative learning thrives through art, music, DT, computing, languages, PE, PSHE, and RE, from studying William Morris, composing music, learning about Roman life through Latin, to developing teamwork and resilience in sport.

It’s a term packed with curiosity, challenge, creativity, and memorable learning experiences for every child.
