Hudson Class
Reception
Welcome to Hudson Class Page!
In Hudson Class, we value each child as an individual with a unique potential for learning. By providing a play-based and stimulating environment, both inside the classroom and in the outdoor area, it allows children to explore and develop their own ideas, both independently and working with friends and adults. Children are able to access a range of experiences and activities throughout the day, some of which will be adult led and some will be child initiated, where they will be learning through play.
Children have the opportunity to take risks, and to be challenged across the prime and specific areas of learning and development. This is done through engagement, motivation, opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving, building upon and developing the characteristics of effective learning.
We aim to deliver our curriculum by providing positive teaching and learning in an enabling and engaging environment where everyone is cared for, valued and respected.

2025-2026 SPRING TERM
Spring term in Hudson Class!
In the first half of the Spring term, children in Hudson will explore the exciting knowledge we have about what exists beyond our planet through the topic of Space. They will discover the sun and how it provides warmth for Earth, as well as learn about gravity and how it keeps us firmly on the ground. We will explore the work of scientists who study the stars, including Galileo and Caroline Herschel, and learn about astronauts such as Mae Jemison and Tim Peake. The children will also find out about the International Space Station and the planets in our solar system. They will investigate stars and constellations, learn about the Apollo 11 moon landing, and explore the Mars 2020 mission that successfully placed a rover on the red planet. This topic has been carefully chosen to encourage children to think beyond their immediate surroundings and to begin asking thoughtful scientific questions about space and our understanding of it.
In the second half of the term, our topic will be Growing and Changing. Children will explore the seasons, plant growth, how animals grow and change, food and farming, and how humans grow and change over time. They will learn that there are four seasons on Earth and that the Earth orbits the sun. They will discover that when our part of the Earth tilts towards the sun, we experience summer. Building on the idea of change, children will also explore the past and consider how places, including our village and local area, change over time. We will conclude the topic by learning about how animals and humans grow and change, and the different stages of life.
We are really looking forward to the term ahead and are excited for all the fun, engaging, and creative learning experiences to come.
