Hudson Class - Reception

Hudson Class

Reception

Welcome to Hudson Class Page!

In Hudson, we value each child as an individual with a unique potential for learning. By providing a play-based and stimulating environment, both inside the classroom  and in the outdoor area, it allows children to explore and develop their own ideas, both independently and working with friends and adults. Children are able to access a range of experiences and activities throughout the day, some of which will be adult led and some will be child initiated, where they will be learning through play.

Children have the opportunity to take risks, and to be challenged across the prime and specific areas of learning and development. This is done through engagement, motivation, opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving, building upon and developing the characteristics of effective learning.

We aim to deliver our curriculum by providing positive teaching and learning in an enabling and engaging environment where everyone is cared for, valued and respected.

Curriculum Overview

2024-2025  AUTUMN

Autumn term in Reception!

Welcome to an exciting new year in Hudson Class.

In the first half of the Autumn term, we will be learning ‘All About Me’. We will first explore emotions and feelings, and build relationships and bonds together. Children will learn about their bodies, what we can do with them, and what they are good at. We will learn about our families and how we grow and change over time, looking at different stages of life. The children will also think about what they might like to do when they grow up.   We will explore our local area with interactive maps, books, photos and lots of local walks, learning about where the children live and comparing the area around our school from the past to the present day.

During the second half of the Autumn term, our topic will be ‘Transport’, where we will be learning about different types of transportation and think carefully about road safety. We will explore vehicles from around the world, including Tuk Tuks from Thailand, Gondolas from Venice and dog sleds from Alaska. The children will learn about and compare different modes of transport from the past and the present, and will think about how we might travel in the future. We will also learn about George Stephenson, who invented the steam train nearly 200 years ago!

We are very excited for the term ahead, and can’t wait for the fun and creative learning to begin!
